For more than three decades, a column of Menlo Park and Greater Peninsula Real Estate Community, Terry created a career defined by integrity, expertise and real care for its customers.
His warmth and professionalism earned him not only the top industry award but also a lifetime friendship, and his disadvantage leaves a deep zero among all who knew and worked with him.
Born in 1962 in San Francisco, Terry was raised in a close family, which was established in the values of hard work and compassion. After earning his degree in Business Administration from San Jose State University, he started his real estate career in 1988.
At a time when the luxury market on the peninsula was still emerging, Terry recognized the unused capacity of the region and became one of its early champions. For architectural expansion, her deep eye, coupled with deep knowledge of local zoning and land-utilization issues, deployed her as a go-two agent for sensible buyers and vendors.
Over the years, Terry represented dozens of high-profile transactions from the wealth of historic Spanish-style in Atherton to the modern eco-friendly houses in the Portola Valley.
Still his biggest satisfaction did not come from the investigation of the Commission, but from the moment he first handed over the key to the owner of the house or helped a growing family find the right place to keep the roots down. As a grateful customer said, “Terry didn’t just sell houses – he welcomed each of us to a community.”
This ethos of service increased beyond her business: Terry served in the boards of both the Mid-Peninsula Association of Realters and Portola Valley Council, which offered her expertise to guide the responsible development in the entire region.
Away from the office, Terry was a fond Chawla Hycar and nature enthusiast, he passed away with his two children, Meerdith and Thomas. The weekend is often seen to the Kerwin family that they discover the Windy Hill Open Space Reserve or Kayaking trails on the calm water of the tomless bay.
Terry, a long -time supporter of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, led several local fundamentors to preserve important wildlife corridors and protect the beautiful beauty of the hills of the Gulf region.
In his spare time, he voluntarily worked with the peninsula residence for humanity, helping to build houses for the needy families – a natural expansion of his belief that everyone is entitled to a place to call home.
Terry’s biggest legacy, however, lies in relationships he forged. The colleagues remember him as a patron, who took young agents under his wing, sharing a strategy for interaction and marketing – but also a lesson in sympathy.
“He taught me that the most important thing is listening to me,” says a former mentor. “Those hearing skills are separating me today.” Friends recalled her generosity in the holiday meetings, her laughter was echoing through the grand pines of Portola Valley, and she held a dinner held on her courtyard, where the guests tasted their homemade Tiramisu with lively conversations.
Terry is alive by her beloved children, Meredith Kervin and Thomas Kerwin; His brother, David Malin; And her parents, Helen and Robert Malin. She also leaves a wide congregation of customers who became friends, fellow agents who became associates, and neighbors in the peninsula who benefited from her leadership.
A celebration of Terry’s life will be held on Saturday, June 20 at 2:00 pm at Portola Valley Town Center, where family and friends are invited to share memories, stories and laughter in his honor. In exchange for flowers, the family midpeninsula requested to donate to the Regional Open Space District or Habitat for Humanity of Silicon Valley, which makes Terry the champion with her full heart.
