Union, KY – A terrible and chaotic incident occurred on Thursday, June 12, 2025, after a regular welfare investigation in Bune County, in a violent deadlock. A person is now in custody with deadly injuries after allegedly set fire to landscapes and law enforcement officers.
Around 1:00 pm, the depot of the BOONE County Sheriff office was sent to the union to investigate the welfare of a resident in 10767 Saunders Lane. As such a depot route was, the nature of the call changed dramatically when it was reported that the resident shot in a landscaping crew working nearby.
On reaching the spot, the suspect started shooting on the duties and officers of the Florence Police Department, who arrived for help. Officials returned the fire, motivated the suspect to retreat in his house and stopped themselves inside a bathroom.
In response, Bune County SWAT team and trained negotiators were posted at the scene. The Boone County Emergency Management Agency issued a shelter-in-place order for the immediate neighborhood as the situation intensified.
Despite several attempts to communicate, the suspect refused to respond. After several hours of unsuccessful conversation, SWAT authorities deployed gas cannastars to residence, which eventually forced the suspect to hide. He surrendered to the officials shortly after.
Deputies discovered that the man had locked a gunshot in the chest during the first exchange of bullets. Although conscious and cautious at the scene, he was taken to the UC Medical Center in Cincinnati, where he is in critical condition.
Thankfully, there was no injury between the law enforcement officers, the landscaping team or the residents nearby.
The shelter-in-place order was removed around 6:36 pm, and the region was considered safe.
As the standard protocol is, Sheriff Les Hill has requested an independent investigation into an officer-Shansil shooting by Kentki State Police. In addition, the Bune County Sheriff Office will conduct a separate criminal investigation in the works of the suspect.
Officials have not released the identity of the suspect, and the investigation is on.
