Las Cruces, NM-14 June, 2025-LAS Cruces The police department is appealing to the public for information as the detectives continued to investigate the suspected and tragic death of a 63-year-old man found near a bus stop on the east of the city on Thursday afternoon.
On June 12, around 4:30 pm, the emergency respondents of the Las Cross Police and Fire Departments were sent to the area of Eastern Lohman Avenue, after several 911 calls from the concerned passers -by, between the Nacho Drive and Futahils Road. The callers saw a man lying on the ground near a city bus stop, not away from the access ramp, the Las Cruce Dam Reaches the Dam Recreation Area.
On arrival, the first respondents located the man with injuries visible on their face and demonstrated indications of agonal breathing – a laborious and panting form that is often seen in individuals who experience extreme therapy crisis or reach close to death. Despite an immediate lifetime attempts at the scene, the man was declared dead immediately after that.
The deceased has been identified as 63 -year -old Luther Louis Gilbert, a resident of Las Cross. Gilbert was known in constant areas with Lohman Avenue, and the police are working to establish a timidline of their movements in the leading hours for their death.
At this time, the police have not released specific details about the nature or cause of Gilbert’s injuries, but they confirmed that death is considered suspicious. The Criminal Investigation Division of LAS Cruces Police Department is leading the matter and continues to collect evidence, cancel the area for monitoring footage, and talks with potential witnesses.
Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with someone who would have seen Luther Gilbert on Thursday, June 12, either in the area around the bus stop or elsewhere in the area. They also expect to hear from those who have recently talked to them or who have any knowledge of their recent places, contacts or mind state.
“We believe that Mr. Gilbert was in crisis before contacting emergency services for some time,” said a spokesman for the Las Crust Police Department. “It is important that we hear from someone who saw him in the area or seen anything unusual on Thursday afternoon. Even the smallest detail can help us understand what happened.”
