Todd Lane Hunscore, 53, of Bottineau, North Dakota, tragically took his own life on Wednesday night, just days after being arrested and charged with corruption or entrapment of a minor. His death followed serious allegations stemming from an incident at the Sky Dancer Casino near Belcourt, which led to a federal investigation and subsequent charges.

What happened:

On November 17, Todd Lane Hunscore was arrested following the execution of a federal search warrant at his home on Sunset Bay Road and his 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. The charges stemmed from an alleged incident at the Sky Dancer Casino on October 14, where surveillance footage showed a 16-year-old boy entering the back of Hunscor’s truck for approximately 13 minutes. Court documents indicate that the truck was seen moving, and clothing was removed during the exchange.

According to the probable-cause affidavit, the minor met Hunscore through the platform X (formerly known as Twitter), where they exchanged sexually explicit messages and images. The boy claimed that Hunscore arranged to meet him in the parking lot, where the truck had been prepared with a blanket, pillow, and flat seats. During the encounter, the boy reported Hunscore made a disturbing comment, saying, “I like young boys, but I wait until they’re 18.”

Search and arrest:

During a search of Hunscor’s vehicle, agents found condoms, lubricants, adult entertainment items and a feminine hygiene product. When questioned, Hunscore requested legal representation and was later booked into the Bottineau County Jail. Her husband told investigators that they had not been intimate in years and previously revealed that Hunscore had used the dating app Grindr and a secret “burner phone” while living in Minot.

Hunscore’s arrest shocked the community, and just days after being charged, Hunscore took his own life, leaving many questions unanswered. Authorities have not disclosed the manner of his death, but his demise prompted the Rolette County State’s Attorney’s Office to confirm that all criminal proceedings against him will be dropped.

Community Feedback:

This tragic incident has left the community in shock, especially given the nature of the allegations and Hunscore’s sudden demise. Local Tribal and County resources are providing counseling services to help those affected by this case.

As of now, the identity of the 16-year-old victim has not been released, and authorities are continuing to support those affected by the incidents. The case has raised significant concerns about online safety and the potential dangers minors face in digital spaces.
