The La Grande community is in shock after the tragic discovery of two missing men – 29-year-old Dale Burke and 16-year-old Drake Hill, whose bodies were found Friday in a vast field in northeast La Grande. What happened:
On Friday morning, at approximately 11:30 a.m., La Grande Police Department officers were following up on an ongoing investigation when they discovered the body of Dale Burke, who had been missing since October 27. As soon as his body was found, the area was secured and investigation was started.
Just ten minutes later, police found the remains of 16-year-old Drake Hill, who had been missing since November 3. It appears that Drake also succumbed to his self-inflicted injuries. The two bodies were found about 100 yards apart in the same field, causing concern, although initial reports suggested the deaths were independent of each other.

The Major Crimes Team, including personnel from the La Grande Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police and the Union County District Attorney’s Office, was deployed to ensure a thorough investigation.
