Providence, Utah – The community of Cache Valley is reeling from the devastating loss of two bright young spirits, 17-year-old CJ Fifia of Avon and 14-year-old Zylie Hutchinson of Hyrum. Both teenagers tragically died following a two-vehicle collision on Saturday night, November 22, 2025, leaving their families, friends, classmates and the entire community in shock and grief.

What happened

On the evening of November 22, five teenagers were traveling together in a Toyota Corolla on a quiet stretch of South SR-165, near 1815 South, when the vehicle lost control. The car slid into the southbound lane, where it was struck on the passenger side by a Toyota Sienna. The impact caused the Corolla to overturn and come to rest upside down.

First responders, including soldiers, paramedics and local bystanders, immediately arrived at the scene. Tragically, both CJ and Jilly were trapped in the vehicle and emergency crews had to extricate them. Despite the best efforts of rescue workers, CJ Fifia was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later transferred to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation. Zylie Hutchinson fought bravely through the night but died of her injuries at a trauma center the next morning.

Who was CJ Fifia?

CJ Fifiya, aged only 17, was remembered by family and friends for his kindness and uplifting spirit. Despite the best efforts of the medical teams, Zylie died the next morning surrounded by love.

Five people in the Toyota Sienna, two adults and three children, suffered minor injuries. Officials confirmed that all passengers in the Sienna were wearing seat belts or were secured in car seats, and no one in the Sienna is expected to suffer long-term physical effects.
