Tommy DeCarlo, lead singer of the iconic rock band Boston, has died at the age of 60 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. His death was confirmed on March 9, 2026, through a heartfelt message shared by his family on social media.

The message posted by DeCarlo’s children, Annie, Talia and Tommy Jr., reflects the family’s deep grief. “After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, she fought to the end with incredible strength and courage,” he wrote, asking for privacy during her time of grief. The emotional post ended, “Rest in peace, Dad.”

DeCarlo’s journey to becoming Boston’s lead singer was one that captured the hearts of fans around the world. Born in Boston, he was an avid fan of the band and worked as a credit manager at a North Carolina Home Depot before beginning his music career. His passion for music, influenced by Boston original lead singer Brad Delp, led him to post covers of Boston songs on MySpace. His rendition of “Don’t Look Back” caught the attention of Boston’s founding guitarist, Tom Scholz, who was so impressed that he invited DeCarlo to join the band for a tribute concert for Delp in 2007.

From that moment on, DeCarlo became the voice of Boston, singing such timeless hits as “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” and “Rock and Roll Band” during live performances.
