CHESTER, Virginia – The community and the Army lost a dedicated young leader in the passing of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Christian Isaiah Cypress, who died February 19, 2026, at the age of 26. An award-winning communications NCO with Fox Company, 97th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne), SSG Cyprus was committed to supporting civil-military operations and enhancing communications efforts critical to her unit’s mission success.

Born on June 16, 1999 in Chester, Virginia, SSG Cypress dedicated most of his young life to serving his country. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant because of his knowledge, professionalism and unwavering commitment. People who work with him describe him as one of the most knowledgeable and professional members of his unit. A fellow service member paid tribute, saying, “He really would have gone much further in his career.”

Before his demise, SSG Cyprus was selected to attend the prestigious Civil Affairs Qualification Course, a testament to his competence in special operations civil affairs. His career path was marked by dedication and a strong sense of duty towards his country and comrades.

Leaving a legacy of leadership and excellence, SSG Cyprus had a profound impact on those around him. His service and commitment were a source of inspiration, and his loss is deeply felt by both his fellow soldiers and his family. “He was always there for us,” a co-worker shared. “His work ethic and determination were unmatched.”

On March 7, 2026, a celebration of life service was held to honor the memory of SSG Cypress, and he was buried at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester, Virginia. As friends, family and fellow service members gathered to pay tribute to him, the overwhelming feeling was one of gratitude for his sacrifice and the positive impression he left on those who knew him.

SSG Cyprus will always be remembered for his service, sacrifice and the indelible mark he left on the lives of others. Rest in peace, SSG Cyprus. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to your country and the impact you have made on everyone you come across.
