Florence, Ky. – A search that captivated the community has ended tragically with the discovery of the body of 9-year-old Jenny Dim. Kentucky State Police confirmed late on March 14 that the young girl, who had been missing since Friday evening, had been found dead.
Jenny, who has autism, was last seen near McIntosh Lane in Florence on March 10 around 5pm. Authorities immediately began a massive search, involving local law enforcement, search and rescue teams, and volunteers. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office conducted an extensive search that covered two square miles on foot and seven to eight miles by air, using drones and helicopters. K-9 units also assisted in the search, covering several miles in hopes of finding the missing girl.
Despite the tireless efforts of first responders and volunteers, the outcome was not what the community expected. Kentucky State Police issued a statement expressing sadness and thanking everyone involved in the search. “Sadly, this is not the outcome we had hoped for. We thank all first responders, the public and the media for all their efforts during this investigation,” the statement said.
At this time, the cause and manner of Jenny’s death have not been disclosed, and authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her passing.
