Dekalb County is doing $ 100,000 to increase public safety in district 1 through an extended initiative in partnership with the County Tucker-Northelak Community District (CID). Funding will increase police patrolling in both residential and commercial areas, which will increase the existing off-duty officer of CID.
What is happening:
Commissioner Robert Patrick announced the expansion of police patrolling to cover up to 1 communities, including Tucker-Northelak CID, Emmandel, Embri Hills, Fleetwood Hills, North BirClif, NorthCress, Northelake, Placentdale, and Seustor Woods. The new funding will increase patrolling not only in the neighborhood but also in nearby commercial areas. The objective of this initiative is to remove increasing concerns about crime and disturbances, especially in commercial areas.
Statements from local leaders:
Commissioner Robert Patrick said, “A strong and visible law enforcement presence helps prevent criminal activity and sends a clear message that these are communities where people do not tolerate care and crime.” The patrol expansion follows concerns with commercial property owners about the increasing crime, the CID board last year, by approving the additional $ 100,000 to more than doubled the patrol coverage.
Matthew Lee, Executive Director of Tucker-North CID, emphasized the associate nature of the initiative: “This partnership represents our ongoing commitment to support the good work of Decalab County Police Department from the finance of the supplementary patrol … public safety is a common responsibility that belongs to all.”
Ongoing efforts:
Since 2018, Tucker-North-North CID has funded the off-duty duty Decalab County Officers to patrol the district. Given an increase in criminal activity with the summer months, the expansion of patrolling during this time is seen as an active step to increase safety and crime.
Increased presence will also include distribution of security information, encouraging residents to report crime and suspicious activities. Officers will submit a weekly activity report to the CID and Commissioner Patrick’s office, ensuring the ongoing oversight and transparency.
conclusion:
This cooperation between Dekalb County Government and Tucker-Northlake CID reflects the common commitment of the community to increase public safety. By providing additional resources for police patrolling, the objective of the initiative is to make District 1 a safe place for both residents and local businesses.
