The fatal crash occurred just after noon along Route 31 between Titus Mill Road and Hopewell Pennington Road in Mercer County. Jacob Swann was a passenger in a Honda Civic traveling southbound when it crossed the center line and struck a northbound tractor trailer head-on, according to investigators.
Swann and two other Lenape High School seniors were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, Jacob Swann died from his injuries shortly after arriving. His two friends remain hospitalized.

He was preparing to graduate as part of the Class of 2025 and had planned to attend The College of New Jersey after graduation. Community Reacts to Jacob Swann’s Car Accident
Lenape High School Principal Tony Cattani released a statement expressing sorrow over the loss:
“Our Lenape Family suffered a tragic loss today when one of our seniors was killed in an automobile accident. Two of the student’s friends were also injured. We are working closely with the Burlington County Crisis Response Team to provide support.”
Students described the mood at school as somber and heavy. Senior Derrick Hammond said,
“Even though I didn’t know him personally, it had a heartfelt impact on everyone.”
Another classmate, Evan Gaddy, added,
“Just him not being here to experience graduation and everything else coming up—it’s heartbreaking.”
Investigation Continues Into the Route 31 Crash
The Jacob Swann car accident is currently under investigation by the Hopewell Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities are still trying to determine what caused the Honda Civic to drift into the opposite lane.
