According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred shortly before night. Initial investigation indicates that Chitwood was still walking near the highway, until he was killed by a passing vehicle. Emergency employees responded rapidly at the scene, but despite their efforts, Kara was declared dead at the site of the collision.
