In the small town of Bardstown, Kentucky, the death of Rhonda Colleen Cross has left an indelible mark on her family, friends and community. Rhonda, 69, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 8, 2026. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and former EMT who touched the lives of those around her with her kindness and dedication.

Rhonda was born on December 19, 1956 in Marion County and throughout her life she embodied the qualities of warmth, selflessness and love. Whether she was volunteering as an emergency medical technician for Nelson County EMS or caring for her beloved grandchildren, Rhonda made it her mission to help others. “She was the rock of our family,” said her daughter, Melissa Soria. “She gave so much of herself and never asked for anything in return. She loved with all her heart.”

Rhonda’s passing is a loss that extends far beyond her immediate family. A mother to all, she was known for her generosity, ability to listen, and ever-present support. “His door was always open,” said his sister Rosemary Mattingly. “She had a way of making everyone feel like they were her family. She truly made the world a better place.”

Rhonda’s family will remember her not only for her love, but also for the strength she showed in the face of adversity. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Michael “Hank” Cross, her parents Joseph Leo and Mary Belle Lee Hutchins, and her three brothers. She is survived by her husband, Frank Clark; three children – Melissa Soria, Colleen Cross Simpson, and Hank Cross Jr.; And the number of grandchildren is increasing, including twin grandchildren on the way.

His demise has been deeply felt, and a large community has stood with his family during this difficult time. The Hall community, known for its close-knit relationships, has shown an outpouring of support through prayers, flowers and heartfelt messages.

“She gave so much to so many, and it’s hard to imagine life without her,” said her friend and neighbor, Rita Hutchins. “But we take solace in knowing that she lived a life full of love, and her memory will live on in her children and grandchildren.”

Rhonda’s funeral will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026 at Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, where he will be buried. Family and friends will have an opportunity to gather for a visitation and prayer service at the funeral home on Sunday, March 15.

As Rhonda’s family moves through their grief, they are comforted by the knowledge that her legacy of love, service and compassion will live on through them. His son Hank Jr. said, “We will honor him by living the way he taught us.” “With kindness, strength and love for one another.”

Rhonda’s memories will continue to guide and inspire those who knew her in the days to come. The community of Bardstown will always remember her spirit, the woman who always made time for others and whose love never wavered.
