The Royal Air Force Air Cadets Community and all who had the privilege of knowing CWO Matthew Adams, expressed condolences to the loss of a remarkable young man, whose life was a will for flexibility, leadership and unwavering spirit. Matthew, which joined the 346 squadron as a bright and enthusiastic cadet in 2019, quickly distinguished himself not only through his impressive commitment but also through heart and courage, which defined every action of his.
The moment he stepped on the parade square, Matthew’s passion for the cadet program brightly shone. He embraced every aspect of squadron life with remarkable energy – whether mastered drill movements, excellent performance in fieldcraft, strictly participated in sports, or respected his leadership skills. Matthew was not just a participant; He was a role model and an inspiration for his peers and adult volunteers. Always eager for the first volunteer, eager to lend and try for excellence, he means what he means to be a leader in air cadets.
At the end of 2022, Jeevan presented Matthew with an extraordinary challenge – diagnosis of a rare form of cancer. Such news would have forced many people to retreat, stop, or even give up their ambitions. But not Matthew. With the specialty courage and determination, he faced his illness, refused to define it or limit them. Against medical advice and against the obstacles standing against them, he continued to participate in the most soughting squadron activities. Whether it is ending long distance road march or participating in challenging adventure training campaigns, Mathew’s flexibility has never been waver.
His remarkable penance and soul did not pay attention to anyone. In the recognition of his courage and excellent commitment, Matthew was awarded the Brian Luke Award of Squadron for Endeavor with praise of the prestigious Commandant. These honors speak volume – not only about their character, but also about the intensive impact on the people around them. Matthew was not just fighting for himself; He was inspiring an entire community.
For members of 346 squadron, Matthew was more than a cadet; He was a family. His understanding, his optimism in adverse conditions, and refusing to define the disease were sources of strength for many. Adult volunteers and fellow cadets equally found a source of hope and courage in Matthew. Their absence is felt deeply, not only in the daily routine and activities of squadron, but in the hearts of all those who knew them.
The influence of Matthews carried far beyond squadron boundaries. His story is one of bravery and perseverance – a shiny example for the Royal Air Force Air Cadets and all the youths. Their commitment, courage and unwavering spirit will continue to inspire generations to come.
A celebration of the life of CWO Matthew Adams is starting at 0945 hours at Holi Savier Church in Tinmouth, on Saturday, 7 June 2025. Cadets and Staff of Durham Northernland Wing who knew that Matthew was invited to participate warmly. Those wishing to participate in this tribute are encouraged to contact the officer commanding 346 squadrons through their chain of commands.
As we gather to say farewell, we respect a young man whose courage marches with us every day. Rest in Peace, CWO Matthew Adams. Your soul and heritage will always be part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets family.
