Beloved husband, father and papa Alan McGhee, of Greenock, died on September 19, 2025, aged 72. He passed away after a brave battle against cancer, which affected his kidneys and lungs, which he was diagnosed with just four months before his death. Alan’s warm heart, love for his family, and dedication to those close to him left a lasting impression that will be remembered for years to come.
a loving family man
Alan was a devoted family man who poured love into every relationship, especially with his wife Eleanor, children and grandchildren. His warmth, sense of humor and willingness to put his loved ones first defined his character. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and his family is consoled by the memories they shared.
Eleanor, Alan’s wife of many years, spoke about the exceptional care he received in his final months at Inverclyde Hospice. She described the hospice staff as “God’s angels on earth” for their unwavering compassion, care and support during Alan’s battle with cancer. The team’s dedication allowed Alan to pass away peacefully, surrounded by love and respect.

Alan’s legacy will be one of love and devotion. His family will always remember the memories they made together, strengthened by the love and guidance he gave them. His demise leaves a void in their hearts, but they are consoled by the knowledge that his spirit lives on because of the deep impact he had on their lives.
