A driver escaped serious injuries after a fiery crash involving his sedan and a semi-truck in Carrollton, Georgia. According to the Carrollton Police Department (CPD), the driver admitted he was distracted by his phone at the time of the crash, which resulted in his vehicle being pinned under an 18-wheeler.

The incident occurred on February 26, with CPD posting about the crash on social media to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. Photos shared by police showed a gray sedan badly crushed under the truck, with its windshield shattered and the hood torn off. Despite the severity of the crash, the driver reportedly suffered only minor injuries and was treated at Tanner Medical Center-Carrollton.

“That’s why we enforce the Georgia hands-free law!” In its post, CPD stressed the vital safety importance of staying focused while driving. “The cause? The driver admitted he was distracted by his phone and ran under the 18-wheeler,” the department said, emphasizing the risks of simple looking at a phone while driving.

Thankfully, the driver was not seriously injured, and this accident serves as a reminder of the dangers of distracted driving. Police said the consequences of such incidents can often be very bad and urged drivers to use hands-free features to avoid distractions. “A quick glance at a phone can be devastating,” CPD warned, adding that enforcing Georgia’s hands-free law is not about revenue, but about keeping everyone safe on the road.

Although the driver has not been cited, authorities hope this incident will encourage others to take the law seriously and concentrate while driving. CPD concluded its post with a call for safety: “No notification is worth it. Stay safe, Carrollton!”
