Dundalk, Co. Louth – November 16, 2025:
Irish authorities have released the names of five young people who died tragically in a two-vehicle crash near Dundalk on Saturday night. The victims – aged between 21 and 23 – were traveling together when their car collided with another vehicle on the L3168 at Gibbstown.

What happened

The fatal collision happened just after 9pm on Saturday night on the L3168, a country road near Dundalk in Co Louth. Gardai say the incident involved a Volkswagen Golf which was carrying six people and a Toyota Land Cruiser which was carrying two people.

Five of the six youth traveling in the Volkswagen Golf died on the spot. The sixth passenger, also in his 20s, survived with non-life-threatening injuries and is still in hospital.

Two people in the Toyota Land Cruiser – a man and a woman – were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment. His injuries were also described as non-life-threatening.

Officers have launched a full investigation and are appealing for information from anyone who may have dashcam footage, particularly who traveled on L3168 between 8:30pm and 9:15pm.

Gardai confirmed the identities of the five young adults who lost their lives:

The group were traveling together to Dundalk for a night out – a plan which ended in one of the most devastating road tragedies in recent years. Garda Superintendent Charlie Armstrong confirmed that each bereaved family has been assigned a family liaison officer.

Case details and ongoing investigation

Superintendent Armstrong described the crash site as “very difficult”, citing adverse weather conditions and the challenging nature of the recovery operation. Emergency teams including Dundalk Fire Brigade, HSE paramedics and hospital staff responded rapidly and worked throughout the night.

Technical and forensic investigation of the accident site is underway. Post-mortem of the deceased will be conducted in the coming days as part of the investigation.
