MONROVIA, Indiana – A husband and wife have died in a tragic incident in Monrovia that authorities are treating as a murder-suicide. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department responded to a distress call at approximately 2:30 pm on Friday, February 23, 2026, at a residence on North Sasching Way.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man and a woman deceased inside the home. Sheriff Rich Meyers said a man who called 911 said he received a disturbing response from someone inside the home who allegedly confessed to shooting his wife to death. A 4-year-old girl was also in the house at the time of the shooting, although she was not harmed. The second child was in school.

Officers soon heard another gunshot coming from inside the home, prompting them to conduct a further search. They found the dead couple in another part of the house.

The young girl was safely taken to St. Francis Hospital in Mooresville for observation and was later reunited with her 9-year-old sister, who was at school. The Indiana Department of Child Services has taken custody of the children to ensure they receive appropriate care and support during this tragic time.

Sheriff Meyers shared his concern about the situation and urged others to find peaceful solutions in times of conflict. He said, “It’s a terrible situation. We always try to tell people… If you have a fight, find a peaceful solution. Contact someone you know, contact someone you trust.”

The Sheriff’s Department has not yet released the names of the deceased as they work to notify next of kin. The investigation is in the initial stages, with officials saying they have not found any prior domestic incidents involving the couple.

As the community grapples with the shock of this incident, attention has now turned to the well-being of the children left behind, who will undoubtedly bear the burden of this tragedy.
