It is with deep grief that we report about the tragic deaths of Travis and Candes Buchanan, both 35, with their two young children, Obre (10) and Walker (9), in a small plane crash near Sanford, North Carolina, in July 7, 2025.
What happened
The accident occurred in an area near some trees in Sanford, north -east of North Carolina. Three family members- Travis, Candes and Obre- were declared dead on the spot, while the Walker was rushed to the local hospital, but later died of injuries. The National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) is currently investigating the cause of the accident, which is unknown. An NTSB investigator is expected to reach the site on Tuesday to check the debris, which will be taken to a feature for further analysis.
Family background
Travis and Candes Buchanan were famous in their community, where they run Buchanan Farms in Sanford. He was also active in his children’s lives – preparing for the fifth grade at the Obre Grace Christian School, and Walker was ready to enter the fourth grade. Family disadvantage has left a profound impact on their community, especially in school, where Buchanan was loved.

Expressing its condolences on social media, Grace Christian School wrote, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of one of our crusade families being passed.”
Investigation and next step
The aircraft, which was registered at Travis Buchanan, flew from the merit island, Florida in the first day and was last tracked near Sanford before the accident. Federal Aviation Administration and NTSB are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances around the accident.
